So remember how I went four days without showering and declared showers as overrated? Well shortly after, my little friend Karma decided to pay me a visit.
That's right, the next Friday I woke up to frozen pipes, for the second time this winter. Before you start yelling at me and telling me I should let my water drip, I'll have you know it's not my fault. At all. It's a long story so if you'd like details let me know. Moral of the story, I was really excited about showering that morning. I hadn't washed my hair in awhile, had gotten sweaty at the gym the night before, I was smelling a little ripe. It was time.
This was the case last time my pipes froze. Both times I've had to be at The Academy (our adolescent residential treatment facility for boys) and luckily there is a shower there I can use. So awkward, though, busting up in a room of 16 teenage boys looking like a hot mess making running towards the shower...
On another note, one of my new years resolutions was to keep a record of things I'm grateful for. Here's the list for January:
- job that I really like
- friends who love me and care for me
- new friends with common interests, who are adventurous, and make me laugh
- children
- for the first time in a long time I feel like my body doesn't hate me and I'm not going to die at 35
- my clothes are too big
- people with servant hearts
- the words "thank you"
- shelter in the cold (my heart really breaks for homeless people this time of year)
- really good at being alone
- sabbath time
- having an excuse not to shower
- ability to get rid of lots of items easily
- not slipping on ice or getting in accidents
- body is surprising me in all kinds of ways
- willpower
- courteous drivers
- hardships
- poetry
- patience
- that my life is exactly the way it is
- surprise slumber parties
- ebb and flow
- getting more excited/think it's a bigger deal when a guy sends me a news article than getting a kiss
- NPR
- Robert
- being assured in my skills at work
- falling asleep to the sound of the ocean
- waking up to the ocean and a pink sky
- opportunities for knowledge
- new friends
- Whitney
- Rich
- Daniell
- Kaley
- being hit on by guy with long hair and skinny jeans
- funny dancing
- 70 degree weather in January
- NPR (I spent a lot of time in the car this week so it gets two shout outs)
- Stephanie
- Megan
- Katy
- Kristi
- times when you laugh so hard you cry
- Elizabeth
- Stephen
- hugs
- pillow talk
- Jenna
- Buck
- Buck's precious mom
- Jeff
- sounds of trains at night
Wanted to give a little resolution update, because tomorrow I'll probably be posting three rounds of decluttering and that's just a lot to keep up with. Especially since I think I made it to 365 in one month.
I've been quite successful at sticking to my resolutions. I've made my bed every day, even in a hotel and at a friend's house; packed my lunch and gym clothes and picked out my outfit the night before; went hiking twice; completed at least three crafts; have been cooking; read a book; will look at my finances this week so we'll see about that one... can't remember the others at the moment, but 2011 is working out well!
Note: If your name isn't listed here specifically it doesn't mean that I'm not grateful for you. It's just that I had a lovely weekend and had the chance to visit with lots of friends and their names are the ones that got listed.
