spell check

typically, i'm for it.

however, at the moment, i am a bit peeved by it. still grateful for its daily assistance to my life, but bothered.

firstly, spell check is a modern invention. it is a great technological advance. i, however, believe that spell check needs to get with the times. why are words such as facebook, facebooking, facebooked, texted, texter, texting, and gchat not recognized by spell check? it is exciting stuff, though, that google, googled, and googling are indeed words recognized by spell check. it actually kind of amazes me that a company name is recognized as a friend pointed out that companies typically try to protect their name through patenting, etc.

secondly, my spell check is not feminist enough for me. it does not recognize words like destigmatize, problematize, intersectionality, and the list goes on. just now i complained to laura about this because it also does not acknowledge the word menstruater (or is it -or, i don't know!). this is important when you are writing a paper about menstruaters! laura's response was that those are pretty academic words...but hello, who uses computers for writing papers? academics. in which case spell check should educate itself. and one last example of how it isn't feminist enough for me is that i typed in themselves and it suggested himself. oh heck no. i'm just not okay with that!

so basically i'm asking spell check to dumb itself down to recognize 21st century technology and lingo as well as become a feminist. if i can do it, spell check can too!
