it is going to be a long week...
after much anticipation, the bean soup was ready. it took what seemed like forever. first i was inspired by the colors of the beans, it looked so pretty and i felt assured it would taste as colorful as it looked. i took a picture and now think it resembles throw up. but that could be because i'm already not looking forward to bland bean soup for a week and am already frightened that the soup will not last through the week. seriously, i'm concerned. this is going to involve some serious rationing and will power to resist eating the next day's allotment.
christie and sarah proposed that i do "a week in my shoes" to provide some blogging inspiration. however, my shoe collection is slightly bland and i pretty much wear my sperrys everyday, so i am doing a "week on my plate" instead. however, just like the shoes, i believe you'll be seeing the same thing every day, hence the color accent feature to spice things up a little.
today's menu:
1/2 grapefruit
a baby bowl of bean soup
two pieces of cornbread (btw, Martha White < Jiffy)
lots of chips and salsa
after much debate and agony and a little tummy growling, i decided it is okay to accept food from others. so tonight at bible study i went crazy on chips and salsa, thank you mandy!
millennium development goal #2-achieve universal primary education
this is a concern that needs serious attention. it is such a cyclical and systemic problem. first of all, access to schools for girls is nearly impossible in many places around the world. and if you don't go to school, the chances decrease that your child will go to school. schools need to be affordable and accessible. schools need to be good, too, in order to keep children in school. otherwise, kids will be taken out of school and used as labor, etc.
let's get back to the issue of hunger. you can't concentrate in school if you are hungry. you can't provide food without money. you can't get a job without an education. you can't grow your own food without labor and the adequate materials and knowledge. you can't go to school if you constitute that labor. get the picture?
thankfully i'm not feeling weak or tired yet, but i am anticipating it. my goal was to finish all of my assignments for the week before the week actually started in case that happens. of course that didn't happen. but lets hope all goes well.
