word to the wise-do not look at recipes when you are eating off of a dollar a day. it is just not a good idea. for the past 30 minutes, i've been lusting over these delicious recipes and avoiding my paper on mad cow disease. i have already started my grocery list! one of my favorite hobbies and procrastination tools is http://101cookbooks.com/. Heidi's (yes we are on a first name basis) recipes are so beautiful! which reminds me that i dropped the ball on photographing my meals for the week, but they have been pretty much the same as the first day, until yesterday!!
yesterday was just a beautiful day in the life of my stomach. if it had vocal abilities, i'm sure it would have been singing "hallelujah" in a beautiful operatic voice. i took mooching to a whole new level yesterday. i think you'd (whoever you are) be proud.
yesterday's amazing cuisine:
breakfast:
1 piece of cornbread to tide me over
1 chic fil a chicken biscuit (jenna had free coupons! I don't even like chic fil a breakfast, but this was just heavenly)
lunch:
my body weight in free samples at earth fare. no joke, jenna and i were in there for an hour munching on a sampling of one of everything in the bulk section, potato chips, granola bars, delicious cookies, soy crisps, tortilla chips, trail mix, pita chips and salsa. it was amazing!
dinner:
ashleigh and clifton so kindly invited jenna and me to dinner because they knew we were starving. it was an amazing balanced meal, and surprisingly i didn't feel completely ill afterwards.
chips and salsa
salad
macaroni and cheese (jenna and i had been talking about it all day!)
chicken (my rule is only chic fil a chicken, much to my mother's dismay, but desperate times call for desperate measures...and i didn't want to be rude!)
brownies
sunkist (a beautiful drink that reminds me of childhood)
i definitely needed that food yesterday. i couldn't function. doing homework the past week has been challenging. i can make myself sit down to read, but comprehension was just too much to ask for. i had a wonderful 8 hours of sleep on thursday night, and i had only been awake for about two hours before my migraine made me take a nap, and then later in the afternoon i was reading and my eyes just decided they needed to shut again. i don't know how people function like this for a long time.
MDG #6 is combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
As discussed in class, people that are malnourished have a weaker immune system and are more susceptible to contracting diseases. this further hindrances their ability to work in the fields, continuing the trend of little access to food. because the number of sick people is on the rise, a whole generation is at stake. once they die, they take the indigenous agricultural knowledge with them, leaving children with little know-how on how to tend to the land and raise food. leaving more hunger and the cycle just keeps going.
stay tuned for today's menu...
