new year and a blog facelift

it has been awhile since my last post, and i feel so awful about this, especially since i babbled a bunch of nonsense about how people should blog all the time and not only when they travel. i failed at that, so maybe 2009 will bring some change in that area.

usually i am opposed to new year's resolutions, i just don't see why you need that special date to make resolutions, and can't strive to be skinnier or whatever else in march. it just seems so arbitrary. anyways, i have a few resolutions this year. i was hesitant to say them aloud since that means i actually have to stick to them, but hopefully you non-existent readers out there can help keep me accountable.

so, it has occurred to me that the last semester left me feeling really empty and selfish. i had an abundance of free time and was beyond bored, but i don't think i spent that time in any way that was productive or beneficial to anyone but myself. so this semester and this year i want to change that, i want to explode with love and generosity and positivity. i think my classes are really going to help me in that area as i'll be exposed to a lot of injustice and topics that i am passionate about. to steal christie lou's wording, "i want to become a more loving and gracious kind of person."

additionally, i want to manage my bank account better, and by better i mean i actually want to start doing that. i want to pray daily, and for things that don't revolve around myself. i want to read the news daily, which hopefully will give me more things to pray about. i want to read for pleasure and i want to knit. i want to keep in touch with more people. and maybe i'll start blogging more, since i do have this fancy new page thanks to CLS. which i just realized its kind of odd to have a blog named chicken scratch with a picture of a cow, but whatev...i like it!

christie just blogged (christie, can you teach me how to make your name a link? gracias!) about her desire to want less this year. i just said a bunch of things i want, but they are better than wanting more shoes or purses or clothes or whatever other material and unnecessary vice you can think of...

Yay! A post!

I have goals for myself, that I have decided not to call resolutions and not to set a time period for (but I would prefer sooner than later) - and knitting is one of them! I will learn. It's gonna happen.

And inserting a link for a post is just like doing it in a g-mail e-mail.
